Your fish tank: the catch log that actually lives

By The Tacklbox Team

Catch logs are useful. But a spreadsheet of species names and weights doesn't feel like anything. We wanted logging a catch to feel like it mattered — so we built the fish tank.

What the fish tank is

Every catch you log in Tacklbox can be added to your personal aquarium. The fish swim around in real time, animated against a layered underwater background. Open your home screen and you'll see them moving — your actual catch history, alive.

Each fish in the tank displays:

  • The species — with its illustrated form, not a generic fish silhouette
  • Its rarity badge — Common, Uncommon, Rare, or Legendary
  • Your catch stats — the exact length and weight you logged

Tap any fish to pull up the full catch details — where you got it, what you were using, and when.

How fish get into the tank

You add fish from your catch log. After you log a catch (or identify one with the AI scanner), you get a one-tap prompt to add it to the tank. You can also manage your tank any time by going to the Fish Tank screen and swapping fish in or out from your full catch history.

The tank holds up to 10 fish at a time — which is intentional. Having a limit means you're always making choices about which catches deserve a spot. Pulling a Common out to make room for your first Rare is a satisfying moment.

Why we built it this way

Fishing is fundamentally a game of memory. The stories that stick around for years are almost always attached to a specific fish — its size, the conditions, the moment you realized what you had on the line.

The fish tank doesn't replace that memory. It anchors it. Every fish in your tank has a date, a location, and a catch stat behind it. When you scroll through your aquarium, you're looking at a compressed history of your fishing season.

It's also social. You can view other anglers' tanks on their profiles, see what species they've been landing, and compare collections. A Legendary badge in someone's tank is a genuine conversation starter.

What it looks like when it's full

A full 10-fish tank across different rarity tiers is genuinely beautiful. The fish move with different patterns — some dart, some drift, some hover — and the Legendary catches catch the light differently. It's the kind of thing that makes you want to open the app just to look at it.
